Two nice reviews...

Hey All,

We got a couple of nice reviews in the last two days!  The first is courtesy of hyperbolium.com.  Eli had some really nice things to say and gets what we're doing.  The second is from the blog Last Year's Girl.  She wrote about "Songs That Make You Feel Like Everything Will Be OK."  "Apt. 16" was included on list...and maybe it's because the song actually says "everything will be ok."  Did we mention that Last Year's Girl's name is Lisa-Marie (and is from Scotland)?  That rules.  All ladies named Lisa-Marie are welcome in the D.O.C. world!

Semi-Shameless Self Promotion...

Hey All!

So remember the interview we did last week?  Look below this post if you have short term memory loss.  Anywhoo, Brandon Lemons has a new online magazine called...wait for it...Lemonade Magazine!  The pages actually turn, so feels like a REAL magazine.  I was gonna say it feels like The Matrix, but I never saw that, and even at this point, isn't that a dated reference?

Not only is there a review of "People. Places. Things." in it, but there is also a write up on Drunk On Crutches itself.  Did we mention that the ever so lovely Sally Jaye wrote the review?  Before you start crying foul and saying, "Where is the unbiased journalism?" she was surprisingly negative in her review!  Just kidding.  It's an "Artist On Artist" review and it lends an interesting perspective on things, especially since she was there quite a bit as the record was being made.  So she knows the deal.

So you should head on over there and check out all the cool articles and reviews.

Oh and before we forget...rock show.  June 2nd.  Hotel Cafe.  Do it.

New Review

I woke up this morning to a nice review in my mailbox.  A cool blog called Beat Surrender.  They cover all kinds of rootsier music, much of which we enjoy here at D.O.C. HQ.  It's a really nice blog with tons of stuff there.  You can find the review HERE.

Free Song!

Hey all!  So we now have our mailing list up and running.  Why join?  So you can get a free song!  It's from a live thing we did in February.  Being the recording dorks that we are, we taped it.  Being even more dorky, we didn't record the performance off the console, we went full Grateful Dead bootleg style and put a mic on the PA speakers! It actually sounds good and you might hear a few more tracks from that night in the coming weeks.

But anywhoo...sign up here (just below the Amazon link on the right) or on the Facebook page or even the Myspace page if you want to go retro.  We'll keep in the loop with all the happenings of Drunk On Crutches.  As soon as you enter your info, you will get a download link to grab the song.  Easy as pie!  Mmmm, pie.

Oh, and did we mention there are buttons?

Photos and Songs from The Hotel Cafe

Hey There,

We all had a great time at The Hotel Cafe last Friday!  Thanks to Brother Sal, Jamie Drake, and Miss Willie Brown for playin' with us.

Here are a few photos taken by the amazing Andy Baxter.  Andy came all the way out from Georgia to see the rock show and boy are we grateful, because his pictures are awesome.

Also, the show was taped right off the Hotel Cafe console, courtesy of John Wells.  Here are a couple of tracks to listen to from the Drunk On Crutches "Official Bootleg."

Also, Friday is the record release show at The Hotel Cafe.  Brother Sal, Miss Willie Brown, and now Jamie Drake are also playing.  A great lineup for a great night!  Get your face rocked off.

The Start Of The Beginning...

Yay!

So if you haven't figured it out already, the Drunk On Crutches new long playing record is now OUT!  As you can see here on your right, there are plenty of options on how to get it.  You want full fidelity and kickass artwork?  Get it on CD direct from us.  You want portibility of the Mp3?  Click the link for iTunes or Amazon Mp3.

This record is result of just over a year of work.  Since we work with other artists making THEIR records much of the time, we would work in bursts.  Then, when we would think we were done, Jen would announce that she'd written another song...and dammit, the song would be so good that it would kick off one of the songs we felt wasn't up to snuff anymore.

Above and beyond all of this, we really wanted to use this post to give our respect to the people that played with us on this record.  All these people are amazing musicians and they really brought their "A" game to take the songs to the next level.  We always knew something good was about to happen when someone would say, "Oooh, I've got an idea!"  So, we would push the bottle to side, grab a mic, and get to rocking.  Here are those people that helped us make "People. Places. Things." even more special.
  • Curt Bisquera:  Drums
  • Paul Duncan:  Vocals
  • James Fletcher:  Drums
  • Rami Jaffee:  Organ, Piano, Accordion
  • Sally Jaye:  Vocals & Claps
  • Fil Krohnengold:  Vocals & Piano
  • Jake Notehelfer:  Vocals
  • Harris Pittman:  Bass
  • Bob Thomson:  Bass
  • Mitchell Townsend:  Guitar & Mandolin
  • Brian Wright:  Vocals, Harmonica, Wurlitzer
  • Adam Zuckert:  Drums
There will be much more to come this year...mostly the rocking of your face off.

-Jen & Andrew
