Flying Angels...

Hi Everybody!

We know this is a little last minute, but Drunk On Crutches is returning to The Scene at La Cita on Tuesday, Feb. 1.  This will be our third time playing there and if it's anything like the last two, it will be super fun.  Free show, cheap drinks, murals on the wall...what more can you ask for?  Dogweed and The Broken Numbers Band will also be joining us.

 Come out for the rock show!  Maybe you can get a late night ride on the Angel's Flight.  I just saw it only costs a quarter...and it just happens to be right across the street from La Cita.

Year End Lists Part 3...One More For The Road...

One more "Best Of 2010" list here to tell you guys about...

You may remember back in April when "Hør nå... Hør nå!" in Norway wrote about us.  They loved the record...so much that they named "People. Places. Things."the best album of 2010! 

Rune, who wrote the current posting, was kind enough to send a translation for us to post here:

 

"The Music Blogs definitive list of the best albums from 2010 is ready to launch.

 
The list has a strong focus on Americana, and holds both known and unknown names.  Most albums have been reviewed here on the blog during 2010, and I must say it has never been this difficult to decide what succession to give these albums.

2010 has given us brilliant albums like pearls on a string, and for my own part I must admit that the first year of running this blog has given me more great musical experiences than in years.

I have never bought this many NEW albums, and I have never bought as many new LPs as I have done in 2010. At the same time I have never bought this few albums from large record companies. The majority has been bought from artists or small lables in Norway, USA, England and Germany.

Thank you to all contributors; both musicians, bloggers and you on twitter. I would also like to thank to all you reading. The visitorcount gets higher every day, the same can be said of the time spent on the blog by each reader. And last but not least, thank's to the people creating good chairs.

1. Drunk On Crutches - People. Places. Things.

The hard choice had to be made, and this time the heart wins big time. The battle stood between Bingham and Crutches, but the choice was made on the basis that I have fallen deeply and unconditionally in love with this album.  It is the album I have played the most this year, with no other album coming even close to the same number of rotations. It reminds me in a lot's of ways of other classics I've played to bits and pieces over the years (Full Moon Fever, Graceland, New York, Wilburys vol.1), just because these albums have THAT special something that snuggles itself safely into the back of your mind, demanding constant attention.

The only thing I regret in connection with this album, is that the review I wrote when I first heard it isn't even better. Because this album deserves so much more than I managed to communicate at that point. Also to make it perfect, it should be available on LP..."

Year End Lists Part 2...

Another supporter of D.O,C, has been the excellent "A Fifty Cent Lighter & A Whiskey Buzz" blog.  They were nice enough to list us at #10 this year with "People. Places. Things."  Putting us in the excellent company of some of our favorites like Tift Merritt and Patty Griffin.

Happy New Year All!

With all new 2011 making it's appearance, it's time for everyone's year end list.  It's great to read these since it's where most writers have their own take on the year's releases.  We made a few of these lists this year with "People. Places. Things."  We'll be sharing the other ones in the next couple of posts.

Hey All,

Salvation And Such...

Hey All,

We are back from the tour and things were great.  We met some really cool people and played some really cool places.

On that note, we are playing Silverlake Lounge later this week.  Thursday to be exact.  You can get tickets and information here.  Joining us will be Sons Of August and Lila Nelson.  Like the poster says, there will be cocktails and dancing.

Two nice reviews...

Hey All,

We got a couple of nice reviews in the last two days!  The first is courtesy of hyperbolium.com.  Eli had some really nice things to say and gets what we're doing.  The second is from the blog Last Year's Girl.  She wrote about "Songs That Make You Feel Like Everything Will Be OK."  "Apt. 16" was included on list...and maybe it's because the song actually says "everything will be ok."  Did we mention that Last Year's Girl's name is Lisa-Marie (and is from Scotland)?  That rules.  All ladies named Lisa-Marie are welcome in the D.O.C. world!

Semi-Shameless Self Promotion...

Hey All!

So remember the interview we did last week?  Look below this post if you have short term memory loss.  Anywhoo, Brandon Lemons has a new online magazine called...wait for it...Lemonade Magazine!  The pages actually turn, so feels like a REAL magazine.  I was gonna say it feels like The Matrix, but I never saw that, and even at this point, isn't that a dated reference?

Not only is there a review of "People. Places. Things." in it, but there is also a write up on Drunk On Crutches itself.  Did we mention that the ever so lovely Sally Jaye wrote the review?  Before you start crying foul and saying, "Where is the unbiased journalism?" she was surprisingly negative in her review!  Just kidding.  It's an "Artist On Artist" review and it lends an interesting perspective on things, especially since she was there quite a bit as the record was being made.  So she knows the deal.

I woke up this morning to a nice review in my mailbox.  A cool blog called Beat Surrender.  They cover all kinds of rootsier music, much of which we enjoy here at D.O.C. HQ.  It's a really nice blog with tons of stuff there.  You can find the review HERE.

Hey all!  So we now have our mailing list up and running.  Why join?  So you can get a free song!  It's from a live thing we did in February.  Being the recording dorks that we are, we taped it.  Being even more dorky, we didn't record the performance off the console, we went full Grateful Dead bootleg style and put a mic on the PA speakers!
